ADJUDICATION CRITERIA

PROGRAM OBJECTIVE

The objective of the Shuler Awards program is to create visibility for high school theater programs and generate an event that builds community while celebrating excellent work by teachers and students.

WHAT ARE ADJUDICATORS EVALUATING?

How well each high school production is meeting or exceeding its potential. Each production is evaluated and scored against itself for consideration, rather than against all other school productions, charging schools to create the best possible work in their unique circumstance and environment.

ADJUDICATION PROCESS

1.The Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre Foundation education team recruits a panel of adjudicators, consisting of qualified arts professionals and supporters.
2.The adjudicators attend an orientation to understand the program and scoring process.
3.Adjudicators select the shows they are able to attend based on their schedules, as well as the school performance calendar.
4.Each school's production is evaluated by three adjudicators. Following the school's production, the adjudicators submit scores and written evaluation for each award category to the Shuler Hensley Awards accounting firm Cherry Bekaert, L.L.P.
5.Once the final school production has been evaluated, the full panel of adjudicators meets in a roundtable setting to review the final scores. In the case of a tie, the adjudicators who evaluated the tied schools advise the panel and lead the discussion. School production videos are viewed to help determine the award recipient. DVD quality is not a factor in the decision making process.
